To discuss when the article of impeachment will be sent to the Senate, US House speaker Pelosi said “I don’t think it’s very unifying to say oh let’s just forget it and move on that’s not how you unify Joe Biden said it beautifully if you’re going to unite you must remember and we must we must bring this in and it looks that’s our responsibility to uphold the integrity of the congress of the united states.”
Later, she added, “I’ll be talking with the managers as to when the Senate will be ready for the trial of the then president of the united states for his role in instigating an insurrection on the house on the capital of the united states on our democracy to undermine the will of the people.”
In the media briefing, Chuck Schumer said that he is reviewing a request from Republicans to postpone the impeachment trial until mid-February. However, the Republicans argue that trump needed time to prepare a defense against charges of inciting insurrection.
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell told, “I asked democrats to hold off on sending the impeachment charge to the Senate until January 28th and then give trump two weeks from that day to prepare a defense.”
Meanwhile, Trump has hired south Carolina-based lawyer Butch Powers to represent him in the impeachment trial he has served in the justice department under former Republican president George Bush in 2012, he represented then-governor Nikki Haley who was accused of engaging in illegal lobbying while she was a state representative.
