Juicebox is a kitten going viral after Massachusetts veterinarians sewed plastic buttons into his face following life-saving surgery.
This adorable seven-month-old orange named “Juicebox” suffered horrific injuries after he was attacked by a dog.
Doctors used buttons to hold his sutures in place, Juicebox’s veterinary bills are nearing $2,000 and so a donation page has been set up and you can donate toward his care at www.mspca.org/juicebox.
Rob Halpin, spokesman for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said “The buttons are attached to wires on both sides of his cheeks. And the buttons hold the sutures in place. But they also hold the jaw in place, so it tracks while he heals.”
Then, he added “It’s a fairly novel procedure, and it works really well. And then you end up with a cat that looks adorable while he’s healing.”
According to MSPCA, Juicebox Suffered from Head Trauma, Multiple Jaw Fractures, Lacerations & Damage to the Palate in the Roof of His Mouth.
MSPCA wrote on Facebook about the Juicebox recovery, in a statement they wrote “Buttons be gone! Young Juicebox had his buttons removed today at our Boston adoption center clinic. The young tyke is healing well! He’ll be back in several weeks for x-rays, and we hope to place him into a wonderful home at about that time.
We’ve gotten hundreds of adoption requests for him (thank you!) and thank you to everyone who donated to offset the cost of his medical care!.”
Juicebox’s owners have put him up for adoption so that he could be placed in a dog-free home, till now more than 150 families have applied to adopt the orange tabby.
